In 1861, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Lock. To this union were born six children, Harry N. Horner of Enid, Ernest G. Horner of Quincy, Illinois, Mrs. R. L. Grant of Fairview, Mrs. Bessie Roettinger of Wilmore, Kentucky, Mrs. S. W. Hill of Cherokee and Alfred C., who three years ago, preceded his parents to the Heavenly Home. Two years ago last October, his companion was called home; since that time, he has made his home with Rev. and Mrs. Grant, living two years in Thomas, where he was greatly beloved, and coming to Fairview with them last October. His earlier life was spent in business in Cincinnati, Ohio; coming to Kansas in 1883 and from there to Kingfisher in 1889, and ten years after, he moved to Enid. Grandpa Horner, as he was familiarly known, was the last of a family of nine children. He was converted and joined the Methodist church at the age of ten, and has been a devout and faithful member of the same for 77 years. It will take eternity to reveal the results of his earnest personal work for the Heavenly Father. He leaves to mourn his loss, five children, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.2 |

Obituary* | Obituary for Anna Lee Horner: Mrs. Anna L. Grant Mrs. Anna L. Grant, the widow of The Reverend Robert L. Grant, died September 7, 1964. Memorial services were conducted in Enid Thursday, Sept. 10th. Mrs. Grant was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Horner in New Port, Kentucky. She moved with her parents to Anthony, Kansas, and made the 'run' with them into the Cherokee Strip and settled in Enid, Oklahoma, in 1B98. She was married to The Reverend Robert L. Grant, August 16, 1902, in Anthony, Kansas. For fifty years she served as queen of Methodist parsonages throughout Okiahoma. The Reverend Grant died ¡n 1953. They were the parents of Mrs. W. R. Brown, Cherokee, Oklahoma, Mrs. D. S. Waters, Enid, Okiahoma, and R. C. Grant of Chicago, Illinois. The Reverend Don Waters, pastor of The Methodist Church in Lamont, Oklahoma, is a grandson. Mrs. Grant loved and enjoyed living. She was happiest as the wife of a Methodist minister as she worked with her husband in the many opportunities of service to God and man. While serving at Cleo Springs, she was elected "Parsonage Queen of the Enid District" because of her outstanding heartfelt concern for the people of the parish she served with her husband. Mrs. Grant was one of those rare souls whose faith in all Jesus taught made her life a pageant of triumph and a joy forever. She grew old gracefully becoming day by day the incarnation of all she believed and loved. Her life was radiant and confident. She knew no dull moments nor periods of boredom. Ev en after the death of The Reverend R. L. Grant, she grew in her love for the service to Christ to which she had given her life. Her vigor of mind and wholesomeness of spirit made her life a continuing blessing to those who visited with her. The Reverend John Russell, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Enid, Oklahoma, conducted her final services. He was assisted by the Reverend Don Waters. She stepped from her earthly home to that house not built with hands eternal in the heavens with a reverent curosity and a divine-given confidence. She made life on this earth a richer and finer experience because she lived and served Christ without reservation.1 |

Obituary* | Obituary for Winfred W Wheeler: OBITUARY OF WINFRED W. WHEELER After a lingering illness for months with that intrepid disease consumption Winfred W. Wheeler died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Horner, a mile and a half northeast of Kingfisher, Friday, May 17th, 1895, at 3 o'clock p. m. The funeral service was held at the residence where he died, at 2 o'clock p. m. Saturday, the 18th. Winnie, as he was familiarly known, fought the battle of life bravely, and endured patiently the encroachments of disease which, with the help of the best medical skill, he was unable to repel. He was born in Geneva, Ohio, April 10th, 2869 (sic), and consequently was but little over 26 years of age. Just at that age where all the ambitions and hopes of young manhood seem to make it so desirable to live. On his claim some nine miles south east of our city, he showed that these ambitions were not in vain. With all the ebarrassments (sic) of declining health his place is as well or better improved than those of many who have been blessed with good health. On Nov. 26th, 1891, he was very happily united in marriage to Miss Annie Horner, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Horner. It has been the part of Annie during all these months of failing health, to be brave and true in encouraging and cheering on her husband amid the clouds of threatening that lowered about the pathway. Her faithfulness and devotion, admired so much by all, was best appreciated by him whom she sought to stregthen (sic) and comfort. Winnie was converted in February, 1890, and the virtues of the blessed salvation in Jesus were beautifully exemplified in his life. With neither murmer nor complaint he moved on in the battle of life, with a smile for all, expressions of helpfulness for those whith whom he was intimately associated, and most affectionate devotion to his family, he scattered sun shine along the way, and many will be happier and better because he lived. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. F. Palmer, pastor of the M. E. church in Kingfisher, of which Winnie was a member, and the large concourse of acquaintances and friends that gathered to comfort the living and respect the dead, showed the high esteem in which he was held by all who (sic) whose privilege it was to know him. Rev. E. T. Wheeler, the father of Winnie, and a superannuated minister of the East Ohio Conference of the M. E. Church, has been with him for several months, and has been a great comfort and help to his much loved boy, as the suelight (sic) of life was sinking away into the evening and night of death, and while with the devoted wife he is bowed with grief, the sorrow is broken by the swedt (sic) assurance that they will meet again in the morning, where these experiences of sadness come no more. "Calm on the bosom of thy God, Fair Spirit rest thee now! E'en while with us thy footsteps trod, His seal was on thy brow! "Dust to its narrow house beneath! Soul to its place on high! They that have seen thy look in death, No more may fear to die. "Lone are the paths, and sad the heavens. Whence thy meek smile is gone, But O a brighter home than ours, In Heaven is now thine own." ------- J. F. PALMER Kingfisher, Okla., May 20, '95.3 |
