Obituary* | Obituary for John W Waters: JOHN W. WATERS John W. Waters went home to be with the Lord and to his beloved Delma on Aug. 30, 2014, at the age of 90. He was born in Helena, Okla. on Dec. 10, 1923, to Ethel and Daniel Waters. He was raised in Enid. Surviving are his daughters, Teresa and Mary Beth; three grandchildren, Felicia (Johnny), Amanda and Devin; and two great-grandchildren, Rylie and Soren. John served his country in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 Fortress Waist Gunner in WWII. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 30 years. He was Ranger for the Catalina Mountains in Tuscon, Ariz., for 10 years. After retiring in Prescott, Ariz., he volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 22 years and was a founding member and sang in the choir for Prescott Community Church. He helped with the Community Food Bank for several years as well. Besides his family and friends, he loved to fish, camp, hunt, sing and play tennis. John was married to Delma, his late wife, for 67 years. He was a loving, caring husband and father and all around good man. His family feels a great loss, and he will be missed more than words can express. Along with his giving nature, he requested to be a donor to Science Care.1 |

He served in the United States Navy from 1945-1946. Don lived in Kingfisher and Enid before marrying the love of his life Barbara J. Troup on August 5, 1949 in Enid. He received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Oklahoma A&M in 1950. Don and Barbara moved to Irving, TX where he worked for Chance Vought. A few years later he felt the call to ministry and entered Perkins School of Theology. While in school he pastored the Princeton and Blue Ridge (Texas) Methodist Churches. Following graduation he pastored Oklahoma United Methodist Churches in Lamont, Newkirk, Drumright, Trinity in Tulsa, St. Johns in Oklahoma City, and Pauls Valley. He was an elder in the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. Don retired in 1990 and they moved to Norman. His hobbies included model airplanes, especially World War I vintage and collecting books throughout the year for his family’s Christmas presents. Don was an avid fan of all things OSU. Watching and feeding the birds in his backyard gave him great joy. He was active with the Norman Friends of the Library, and loved fishing. Don is survived by his wife Barbara; children Dan (Vickie), Topeka, KS, Cindy (Terry) Martindale, Alva, Mary (Behrooz) Shirazi, Pullman, WA; sister Marjorie Bowles, Enid; brother John (Delma) Waters, Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law Dorothy (Bill) Bowles, Aurora, CO; grandchildren Scott (Angela) Waters, Beloit, KS, Chris (Jennie) Waters, East Lansing, MI, Jeff (Alex) Martindale, Stillwater, and Katie Shirazi, Seattle, WA; greatgrandchildren Emma, Bella and Luke Waters, and Camden and Maddox Waters; many nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful friends. His Celebration of Life will be 10:00AM, Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church or Lifecare Oklahoma Hospice, Norman. Donald Scott Waters, 85, of Norman, Okla., died Nov. 30, 2012. “Don” was born July 12, 1927, in Cherokee to Daniel and Ethel (Wheeler) Waters. He was a Navy veteran. He married Barbara J. Troup on Aug. 5, 1949, in Enid. In 1950, he received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Oklahoma A&M. He worked for Chance Vought in Irving, Texas.
