Obituary* | | Obituary for Grace French:
Payne County Loses a Good Official Mrs. Grace French Horner, County Supeintendent of Payne County Passes Away. Many of the citizens of Cushing and vicinity will be both shocked and greived to learn of the death of Mrs. Grace French Horner, better known here as Miss Grace French, County Superintendent of Schools for this county. Mrs. Horner was perhaps as well and favorably known as any woman in the county and her death removes a faithful official. For many years Mr. Horner, while yet Miss Fench was a teacher in the public schools of the county. For one year she was a member of the teaching force of this city and it was with regret that her services could not be longer retained here. During the year she was in this city she made many friend by her earnestness, her many spendid traits and her genial disposition. She was more than a teacher, she was a friend of every one of her pupils and they were all her friends. Her loss will be genuinely mourned by a host of old pupils and of other friends. Her death occured at Stillwater where she had been residing for the past several years, on Saturday night and on Sunday the remains were shipped to Illinois, from which state she came to Oklahoma. Mrs. Horner was elected to the County Superintendancy in 1914 and was re-elected to the same position in 1916 and was holding the office at the time of her death. She was married to Mr. Horner shortly after her second election. 3 |
