Obituary* | Obituary for Angeline E Jones: Mrs. George B. Dunning died last Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at her home, northwest of Stanberry. Her death was due to cancer from which she had been a sufferer for the past two and one-half years. Her condition was critical one week prior to her death. Mrs. Dunning had taken treatments at Savannah, Missouri and had also undergone other medical attention, but all of it proved unavailing in her desperate fight. The following obituary has been furnished this office: Angeline E. Jones, daughter of Jacob L. and Phoebe Jones, was born in Vermillion county, Illinois, November 20, 1852, and departed this life December 18, 1929, at the age of 77 years and 28 days. When 19 years of age, she was married to Wm. H. Canaday on July 28, 1872. To this union were born five children. Those living are Frances R. Canaday of Worth, Mo., Mrs. W. M. Osborn of Gentry, Mo., Mr. C. E. Lawrence of Stanberry, Mo. Two preceded her in death, Albert L. and Everett O. Canaday. She was left a widow on Jun 1, 1907. She was married to Geo. B. Dunning on February 4, 1913, who is left with the three children, 11 grandchildren and one sister, Malissa F. Jones, Washington, D. C. to mourn her departure. In her early life she accepted Christ and united with the M. E. church at Hugginsville. She remained a faithful member to her death. She bore her sufferings with great patience and trust in her Savior. Her friends were known by her acquaintances. To know her was to love her. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church by the pastor, the Rev. James B. W. Moore Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Hugginsville Cemetery. The funeral was in charge of the Pennington Undertaking Co.4 |

- The marriage certificate filed in Rowan County clearly states they were married 6 Oct 1898 while the 1900 census clearly shows that they had been married 12 years. The 1900 census shows that Martha had five children. Presumably these were not the result of a previous marriage since her marriage license indicates she was single when she married John Horner. The data tends to support a marriage around 1888. I do not know what the reason is for this descrepency. Maybe 1888 was a common law marriage and 1898 was a legal marriage.
