Obituary* Obituary for Herbert L Collins:
Herbert Collins
October 7, 1923 - February 6, 2011

Herb Collins (87) of Butte, Montana, died on Sunday February 6th at Hearthstone Woodside Village Grand Forks, North Dakota with his daughter and two granddaughters by his side.

Herbie was born in Ridgeway, Missouri and raised in Idaho. He served as a medic in the Army in WWII and was stationed in New Guinea. When he returned to the United States, Herb was a medic on hospital trains escorting soldiers to their homes.

Upon discharge from the Army, Herb completed his degree in Pharmacy at the University of Montana (“Go Griz!!”). He spent a majority of his career as a pharmacist at Downey Drug in Butte.

Herb married Joan McCoy on Superbowl Sunday at halftime in 1995 after many years of friendship. They celebrated their anniversary every Superbowl Sunday. As he passed on Sunday we smile at the thought of them celebrating again.

In March of 2008, Herb moved to North Dakota to be closer to his family.

Herb loved life, golf, and being a comedian. Everyone that knew him remembers a story they could tell of him making them laugh, and we will all miss him very much.

Herb is survived by his sister Deva Wike of Idaho; son Jim Collins (Sue) of Big Bear, California and Son Don Collins; Step-children Leslee Taylor (Val) of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Jim McCoy of Butte, Montana , Lisa Mueller (Casey) of Hamilton, Montana. He is also survived by his grandchildren Danielle (Scott) Lund and Trish Howell of Grand Forks; Jim (Bethany) McCoy of Glendale, Arizona; Kasie (Kevin) Rogge of Butte; John Robbins of Butte and Jami Robbins of Hamilton; Kasey (Todd) Chernesky of Valencia, California; Denise (Brad) Bayliss of California; Donald, and Cheri Collins of Oceanside, California; and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Herb is preceded in death by his wife Joan Collins, parents Ed and Maude Collins, and 5 of his brothers and sisters.

Memorial Service will be held in Grand Forks at Amundson Funeral Home Thursday, February 10th, 2011 at 6:30pm with visitation one hour prior. A service will be held in Butte, Montana in June (TBA).3
