Obituary* | Obituary for Ella Barbara Manion: Ella B. Manion, daughter of Robert and Eliza Manion, was born in Fayette county, Ill., July 28, 1873, and passed away at her home south of Darlington Jan. 5, 1937, aged 62 years, 5 months and 7 days. She was married July 21, 1892, to W. D. Collins. Residing near Gentry until the year 1918, they moved to the Darlington community where they have since made their home. Sister Collins was converted under the preaching of Rev. J. A. Leonard and united with the New Friendship church in 1893, later moving her membership to the Gentry Baptist church where she remained a member until her death. Besides her husband, she leaves six sisters and two brothers, namely, Mrs. Anna Hise, Gentry; Mrs. Para Younger, Gentry; Mrs. Sarah Leach, Kansas City, Mo; Mrs. Ida Wiley, New Market, Iowa; Mrs. Emma Leach, Washington; Mrs. Maggie Rannack, Oklahoma; John Manion, Oklahoma, and Joshua Manion of Worth; with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. At the time of her conversion she received a blessing that was unspeakable and full of glory and came into possession of a hope that was not anchored in this world, but anchored to the rock, Christ; and throughout the years this hope grew brighter and even as the door of death shut off her life here, the portals of glory opened wide to receive its own. She loved the church and gave of her time and means to support the church and the Ladies' Aid that the gospel might go out to the lost. A loving and faithful wife, a good neighbor, a good woman, has fallen out of this active life, but we believe she arose to stand in the ranks of God's eternal city. Funeral was conducted at the New Friendship church by Rev. A. L. Christian. Mrs. Edith Adams sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" at the home. Wm. Gladstone sang "Abide With Me" and "Shadows" at the church. Burial was in the New Friendship cemetery under direction of Clifford Brooks.1 |
