Obituary* | Obituary for Robert Newton Horner: Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Horner, 88, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Fairview. Rev. David Mendenhall will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. Horner was born Oct. 5, 1911 in Enid to Alfred and Sadie (Wilson) Horner and died Sept. 23, 2000 at his home in Fairview. He graduated from Enid High School in 1931. Immediately after school he went to work for the Hyde Construction Company and transferred to Idabel and then to Orienta. His work finally led him to Fairview, where he met and later married Orpah May Wedel on St. Patrick's Day in 1935. He served in the Navy from Nov. of 1943 until Dec. of 1945. During that time he was assigned to Honolulu, Iwo Jima and Guam. After returning to Fairview, Horner and his wife purchased the Wedel Lumber Co. and changed the name to the Fairview Lumber Company. In 1978 he sold the company to his nephew Marjoe Grim and his wife Kathy. Horner was active in the Fairview community, serving on the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department as Captain, Fire Inspector, Pension Board member, and treasurer and was instrumental in getting pay for volunteer firemen. He was also one of the original members of the Board of Directors of the Fairview Hospital. He served on the Fairview City Council, was a member of the American Legion, Fairview Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, and the Oklahoma Lumberman's Association. Horner is survived by his wife Orpah Horner of Fairview; daughter Louana "Lou" Horner of Houston, Texas; son Richard "Dick" Horner of Fairfax, Va; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Viewing will be Wednesday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Fairview Funeral Home.6 |

David Mendenhall will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 1996 in the Pond Creek Cemetery, Pond Creek, under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home. Collins was born Sept. 29, 1895, at Stockton, Mo. to John A. and Margaret (Milhorn) Hedges, one of eleven children. She died Sunday, Feb. 4, 1996, at the Fairview Fellowship Home. Her family moved to Pond Creek in 1916. On Sept. 30, 1919, she and Vernon Hayden Collins were married at Fairview. They moved to Fairview in October of 1928, where she worked in their plumbing, electrical, funiture and appliance store. She was a member of the Fairview First Baptist Church (where she worked in the nursery for 50 years), Betterment Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Fairview Flight Club and Fairview Garden Club. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. C. Steve (Mildred L.) Haldeman of Ringwood, Maxine Partrick of Enid and Laverne Kusch of Fairview; one brother, E. Oscar Hedges of Stockton, Mo; thirteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon, on Feb. 22, 1982, two daughters, Wanda Lee and Irma Jean Manning; one son, Vernon Rae Collins; four brothers and five sisters. Memorials may be made to the Fairview First Baptist Church through the funeral home.1 |

She was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a member of Enid chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority and a volunteer for Bass Hospital Reach to Recovery Cancer support group. She is survived by her children: Judi Hopkins of Tulsa, Mary Warkentine and husband Ron of Tuttle, OK, and Larry Partrick and wife Diane of Arlington, TX; sister, Laverne Kusch of Fairview; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother, daughter, son-in-law and one grandson. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home. Laverne was born on January 3, 1927, in Pond Creek, Okla. to Vernon H. Collins and Nora Hedges Collins and passed away April 28, 2014, in the Woodward Regional Hospital, Woodward, Okla. Laverne moved to Fairview in 1928 and attended Fairview schools, graduating from Fairview High School. On September 4, 1944, Laverne married Jakie Kusch Jr. They were blessed with two children, Katherine Kay and Michael Leon. Laverne worked at Jon Gard's Jewelry store and also worked as a telephone operator. Several years later, she worked at George Francis Income Tax Service. Then for 22 years Laverne worked for Waldons Incorporated in the photography printing room, then transferred to the receptionist position, and lastly was secretary for Walt Battel (sic). She belonged to the Fairview Home Demonstration Club and was a volunteer and treasurer many years with the Fairview Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. She loved going to the Fairview Fellowship Home to visit many residents and later was designated special volunteer. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and taught first and third grade Sunday school classes and helped with Girls Auxiliary. Laverne loved fishing, playing bridge, and golfing in her younger years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Aaron (sic) and Husband Dr. Frank S. Aaron of Woodward, Okla; a son, Mike Kusch and wife Rhonda, of Fairview, Okla; four grandchildren, Julie McNair and husband John of Dallas, Texas; Brad Aaron and wife Holly of Oklahoma City, Okla; Amy Sutton of Woodward, Okla; and Dana Richter and husband Wayne of Fairview, Okla; and eight great grandchildren Austin and Aaron McNair, Avalon and Gracie Aaron, Amber Conrady, Alyssa and Ava Sutton and Cole Richter. She was preceeded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church with the Fairview Funeral Home accepting the contributions. Manning March 12, 1945, in Fairview. They resided in Fairview, Oklahoma City, Great Bend, Kan., Norman and Houston before moving to Enid 12 years ago. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairview and the E.P.I.C. Club. Surviving are her husband; a son, Robert Gene Manning of Amarillo, Tex; two daughters, Cynthia Manning, Edmond, and Mrs. Emil (Sandy) Scherlacker, Great Bend, Kan; her mother, Nora Collins, Fairview; three sisters, Maxine Partrick, Enid, Laverna (sic) Kusch, Fairview, and Mildred Haldeman, Ringwood; and four grandchildren. Interment was in the Brumfield Cemetery at Seiling under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 17, 1916, to Albert Allen and Zada Lavesta (Haworth) Haldeman at Okeene and passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Enid Senior Care Center in Enid. He graduated from Seiling High School with the class of 1934. He married Shirley Tyree and they had one daughter, Shirley Ann. He married Mildred Louise Collins Dec. 27, 1939, at Fairview. They had three children, Bobbie Kay, Melva Jean and Steve Duane. In the early years of their marriage, he farmed and later worked for the railroad out of Fairview. He also worked for his father-in-law in his plumbing business in Fairview. In 1952, he began working as a traveling salesman for Baker Manufacturing in Enid selling plumbing supplies, as well as, heating and air conditioning equipment to contractors in the area. He retired from Baker Manufacturing in the summer of 1980. He and Mildred had made their home near Ringwood for many years and were members of the Ringwood Baptist Church. Due to failing health, they moved to Enid in 2000 to be nearer to medical assistance. He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Enid; three daughters, Shirley Canaday and husband Richard of Grants Pass, Ore., Bobbie Madison of Enid and Melva Hall and husband Bill of Enid; one son, Steve D. Haldeman and wife Judy of Ringwood; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister Lorraine "Blondie" Brown of Seiling; and several nieces, nephews and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.1 |

Surviving are his wife, Betty of the home; two daughters, Sandy Scherlacker of Manhattan, Kan. and Cindy Manning of Edmond; one son, Bob of Amarillo, Texas; three step-children, James LaCourse of Tulsa, Rod LaCourse of Oregon and Cindi Posey of San Angleo (sic), Texas; one sister, Leta Farnsworth of Sharon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
