Obituary* | | Obituary for Vernon Walter Harris:
Vernon Walter, son of George and Clara Harris, was born at the home two miles southwest of Gentry, Mo., May 17, 1916. Died at the Ensworth hospital in St. Joseph, Dec. 31, 1920, aged 4 years, 7 months and 14 days. Little Vernon had always been a delicate child and a constant sufferer. All that loving hands and medical skill could do was done, but to no avail. He was a sweet little flower blooming in the home, where he was tenderly loved and cherished not only by his parents and loved ones, but by every one who knew him. He leaves to mourn his early departure his father, mother, two sisters, one brother, his grandparents, and a host of other relatives and friends. Little Vernon will be missed from his home and by the relatives, but in the sad hour of bereavement out hearts find consolation in the words of Jesus when He said, "Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Funeral servces were conducted at the home and at the Carmack Church Jan. 2, 1921, by R. L. Henry, pastor of the M. E. Church of the Darlington charge. Burial was made in the Carmack cemetery. 2 |

Note* | | Lawrence Dye Biographical
Lawrence was born in Mason County, Kentucky, the son of Peter Dye and Abigail (Dye) Dye. He was married to (1)Mary Ann VanTrease. Their children are Hiram, Martha, Elizabeth, Angeline, John, Mary and David. He lived briefly in South Carolina while dealing with some financial problems in Kentucky. He was a farmer when, on August 21, 1862, he enlisted in the Volunteer Infantry at Vermilion County, Illinois, as a Private during the Civil War. He was wounded, disabled, and was discharged at Nashville, Tenn., on January 28, 1863, at the age of 45. His wife, Mary Ann, passed away in 1865, and he then married (2)Delilah Mills. By that marriage, he was the father of fraternal twins, Cloyd and Ruvilla; Thomas Columbus, David, and Robert, who were all born after Lawrence was an elderly man.

Lawrence and Mary Ann Van Trease/Lawrence and Delilah Mills. Lawrence was the son of Peter (1782-1822) and Abigail Dye (1785-1825). They were first cousins, so the Dye family goes back in two directions. Peter was the son of Kenneth Dye (1757-1817) and Jane Vanderbeck (1765-1815). Abigail was the daughter of William Dye II (called Old Billy) (1740-1806) and Phoebe Mounteer (1743-1818). Both Old Billy and Kenneth were the children of William Dye (Dey) (1718-1784) and Margaret Salter (1720-1799. William Dye was the son of John Laurens Dey (1680-1750) and Ann Brown (1700-1763). John Laurens Dey was the son of Hans Laurentszen Duyts (1644-1708) and Sarah Vincent Fontaine (1660-1740). Hans Laurentszen Duyts was the son of Laurentszen or Laurens Duyts (1610-1667) and Ytie Jansen (1610-1665).
