Obituary* | Obituary for Jon Canaday: Jon Canaday was born on October 9, 1939, to Clarence and Margaret (Maxwell) Canaday and died on July 14, 2009. Every man who met Jon Canaday wished they could be like him. But only in far-flung fantasies could anyone other than Jon be that untamed, that strong, that brave, or ... that free. Jon Canaday was more alive than any twenty people. He squeezed every moment, joy, thrill, or meaning out of an amazing life's fabric. Simply, Jon was better than you at living life. He loved his cigars, his rum, pistols that shot straight, women that loved true, and motorcycles that set him free. Jon did not live life tentatively, nor was he a small person satisfied with the safety of mediocrity. He was bigger than liife -- a vital force that veritably filled the room with his enthusiasm.... and with his laughter. Jon was a member of UDT-21 -- precursors of the US Navy Seals. He was a real American who never forgot his duty to his country, and served it under many flags. Jon was a true American hero. He was a super-patriot who maintained a soft spot in his heart for his brothers in arms who lived in nursing homes and hospitals -- many of whom still nursed wounds from old wars. Jon frequently liberated old soldiers from ther hospitals and hursing homes, and took them for special R & R activities staged in the watering holes and gentlemen's clubs of South Florida. Despite all of his passion for life, first and foremost, Jon considered himself to be the luckiest father on the planet. His conversations were rarely about himself, or his latest exploit -- they were about his sons, daughter and grandkids. To separate Jon from his sense of fatherhood was an impossibility. His family was his life. Jon was a pioneer in digital communications and founded a number of entrepreneurial ventures throughout the United States, Europe and Russia. He was most recently CEO of ViewWay -- an alternative-advertising media company based in South Florida. Jon was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Margaret (Maxwell) Canaday and an infant sister Caroline. He is survived by a dear friend Jan Andio of the home, a daughter, Fronca Delibar of Bloomsburg Pennsylvania, sons Chris and Lisa Canaday of South Beloit Illinois, Sebastian Canaday from Lincoln, Nebraska, Zack and Heather of Lincoln, Nebraska, and a brother Ron and Marilyn Canaday of Platte City, Missouri, and six grandchildren. On Thursday, July 23rd, friends and family of Jon Canaday will gather together to cry, laugh, drink and remember his life. This, his written request: Each of you will have to start learning how to have as much fun as we did when I was around. This will be our first practice session. Jon did not pass away in a passive, footnote-sort-of-a-way. Jon died riding his motorcycle on a sunny day in South Florida. Hie lived out of the axiom that was written on the back of his motorcycle helmet: Die Living.2 |

Obituary* | Obituary for Burl Edward Long: Burns resulting from a gas explosion fatally burned Burl Edward Long 50-year-old Worth, Mo. farmer Monday April 6, 1964. The accident apparently occurred in the morning but his charred body was not found until his wife, Mrs Mary Ruth Long, returned home from work about 5:30 p m. The last person to see Mr Long alive is believed to be Berniel Gabbert who saw him returning to his home on his tractor after feeding his cattle. It is believed that after returning home he drove his tractor to a gas barrel about 30 to 40 yards behind and to the north of the Long home. There were indications that he had put gasoline in the tank and had hung up the hose from the barrel. The gas tank cap was lying on the tractor and had not been put back on the tank. Fumes from the tank probably became ignited by some cause and threw gasoline on Mr Long immediately enveloping him in flames. The switch of the tractor was on. While still burning he made his way to the house and entered the basement through a door on ground level. He had started up the stairway from the basement to the first floor where he collapsed and died and was found by Mrs Long when she returned home from work as a bookkeeper at Motsinger Motors at Grant City. Dr Frank Matteson, Worth County coroner, said the accident probably occurred around 9:30 a am. Mr Long's clothing was burned from his body and Dr Matteson said there were first and second degree burns over his entire body. Part of his cap and part of his burned shoes and rubbers remained on his body. A small throw rug at the bottom of the stairway was charred by his burning shoes. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 9, at the Andrews Funeral Home, Grant City, at 2:00 p m conducted by Rev John Batchelor, pastor of the Worth Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Grant City Cemetery. Mr Long was born on October 24, 1913, the son of the late John Harvey and Della Phillips Long. He was married on January 1, 1938, at the Albany Christian Church to Miss Mary Ruth Barnes. Surviving are his wife; one son, Edward T Long, Council Bluffs, Ia; one daughter, Mrs Melbourne (Carolyn Joyce) Fletchall of East Keansburg, New Jersey; and three sisters, Mrs Mildred Fickle, Wichita, Kan, Mrs Mable Wieser, St Joseph, Mo., and Mrs Helen Long, St Joseph. He was a member of the Worth Methodist Church.1 |
