Esther Boehs Rites Tuesday

Funeral services for Esther Boehs, 61(?), who died Saturday in an Oklahoma City hospital of a heart condition, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of God in Christ Mennonite under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel Koehn and Rev. Harry Wenger officiated.

Mrs. Boehs is survived by her husband, Alfred, of the home; two sons, Allen Boehs, Fairview, and Max Boehs, Isabella; four daughters, Aline Koehn, Nigeria, Africa, Carol Schmidt, Harwood, Mo., Shannon Ratzlaff, Canton, Kan., and Alfred Nightengale, Sublette, Kan; 13 grandchildren; four brothers, Fred, John, Eli, and Frank Penner, all of Isabella; five sisters, Ruby Penner, Fairview, Mrs. Harlan Nightengale, Fairview, Mrs. Jesse Nichols, Isabella, Mrs. Elmer Boehs, Isabella, and Mrs. Art Koehn, Prairie Point, Miss.⁴

FRANCES BOEHS

Funeral services for Frances Boehs will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Fairview, with burial in the Cedar Cemetery, Fairview.

Frances Boehs, 92, Montezuma, Kan. and former Fairview, resident died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, Kan., where she had been a resident since 1992.

She was born on July 19, 1912, to Fred and Anna (Eck) Penner, at Isabella.

She and Elmer Boehs were married Dec. 17, 1933, at Fairview. He preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1983.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Fairview.

Survivors include three sons, Milton Boehs and wife LaVerda, Lakin, Kan., Stanley Boehs, Montezuma, Kan., Kendall Boehs and wife Rosanna, Cabool, Mo; five daughters, Marjorie Hiebert and husband, Delbert, Middleton, Mich., Virginia Unruh and husband, Alton, Greensburg, Kan., Polly Schneider and husband, Robert Perrinton, Mich., Elaine Nightengale and husband, James, Scott City, Kan., Maureen Koehn and husband, Denton, Ulysses, Kan; one brother, John Penner Moundridge, Kan; one sister, Elsie Nightengale and husband, Arlan, Walker, Mo; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter and Verna Boehs, Isabella; brother-in-laws, Alfred Boehs, Montezuma, Kan., Arthur Boehs, Macon, Miss; one sister-in-law, Ella Boehs, Fairview; 23 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, three brothers, and four sisters.⁶

MONTEZUMA -- Frances Boehs, 92, died Feb. 21, 2005, at Bethel Home, Inc., Montezuma.

She was born July 19, 1912, at Isabella, Okla., the daughter of Fred and Anna Eck Penner. A Montezuma resident since 1992, formerly of Fairview, Okla., she was a homemaker.

She belonged to Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Fairview, Okla.

On Dec. 17, 1933, she married Elmer BOEHS at Fairview, Okla. He died Sept. 17, 1983.

She was preceded in death by; three brothers, Eli, Frank and Fred Penner; four sisters, Esther Boehs, Lena Koehn, Anna Nichols and Ruby Boehs; and a grandson, Brock Koehn;

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. at Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Fairview, Okla., with burial in Cedar Cemetery, Fairview. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Montezuma Funeral Home, Montezuma. Memorials may be sent to Bethel Home, Inc., or Gospel Tract and Bible Society, both in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.³

Funeral services for Anna Nichols, 79, was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30 in the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. The Reverends Myron Nightingale and Randy Levings officiated. Burial was followed in the Cedar Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home.

She was born April 17, 1917 at Isabella to Fred and Anna (Eck) Penner Sr. She died Friday, Dec. 27 in the Okeene Nursing Center. On May 26, 1940 she married Jesse Nichols. She was a member of the Fairview Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church.

Surviving are her husband, Jesse; two sons, Harrison Jesse Nichols of Isabella nd Frank Jay Nichols of Iroquois, S.D; one daughter, Mrs. Rodney (Gladys) Hiebert of Louisville, Ga; two brothers, John Penner of Moundridge, Kan. and Fred Penner Jr. of Isabella; four sisters, Mrs. Art (Lena) Koehn of Macon, Miss., Frances Boehs of Montezuma, Kan., Mrs. Harlan (Elsie) Nightengale of Fairview and Mrs. Alfred (Ruby) Boehs of Fairview and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant daughters, two brothers and one sister.²

Funeral services for Fred Penner Jr., 82, were Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at the Mennonite Brethren Church. Pastor Gary Janzen officiated. Burial followed in the Cedar Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Penner was born January 11, 1920 one-mile northeast of Isabella in Major County to Fred and Anna (Eck) Penner and died June 9, 2002 at the Okeene Hospital in Okeene.

Penner grew up and attended school in Isabella, and at a young age he took over the family farming and continued to read and educate himself.

In 1942, Penner entered the Civilian Public Service. He was stationed in Dennison, Iowa and later was transferred to Three Rivers, Calif. where he worked along side a park ranger in the Sequoia National Park.

He and Elizabeth Nichols were married on May 19, 1946 in the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. After their marriage, they lived on the same place where he was born. The couple had two children, one daughter, Lavada, and one son, Fred.

Penner taught Sunday School and ushered in the church for many years. He served on the Isabella School Board for six years. Until 1972 when he retired, he farmed and ran the dairy and began helping his son-in-law get established in the business.

Surviving him are his wife, Elizabeth, Fairview; one daughter, Lavada Koehn and her husband David, Fairview; one brother, John Penner and his wife Ida, Moundridge, Kan; two sisters, Francis Boehs, Montezuma, Kan. and Elsie Nightengale and her husband, Harlan, Fairview; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers and four sisters.²

The funeral for Ruby L. Boehs 75, was at 10:30 Tuesday at Fairview Church of God in Christ Mennonite. The Revs. Randy Levings, Myron Nightingale and Carl Nightingale officiated. Burial was in Cedar Cemetery with arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Born June 13, 1924 in Isabella to Fred and Anna Eck Penner, she died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at Fairview Fellowship Home. She was a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital for five years and worked as an office nurse for Dr. Boughan for 10 years.

On Aug. 20, 1971 she married Alfred Boehs at Fairview Church of God in Christ Mennonite. She lived in Isabella all her life and was a member of Fairview Church of God in Christ Mennonite, serving as a Sunday school teacher and deacon's wife. She was active in sewing circle.

Surviving are her hustand, Alfred; two stepsons, including, Alan "Bud" Boehs, Fairview; three stepdaughters; two brothers, including Fred Penner, Isabella; three sisters, including Elsie Nightengale, Fairview; 15 step-grandchildren; and 25 step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, two sisters, one step-daughter, five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.²

WILLIE ECK

The funeral for Willie "Bill" Eck, 86, who died Tuesday, June 2, 1992, at Fairview Fellowship Home, was held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.

The Revs. Carl Nightengale, Myron Nightengale, and Randy Levings officiated. Burial was in Cedar Cemetery under the direction of Fairview Funeral Home.

He was born April 28, 1906, near Fairview to Henry A. and Katy Wedel Eck and served in CPS camps for 3 1/2 years during World War II. He worked as a mechanic, farmer, barber, and painter.

He had lived in the Fairview area most of his life. He became a general contractor in painting and married Miranda Koehn.

He was a member of Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, where he served as usher, janitor, and cemetery custodian.

Surviving are his wife; and two sisters, Marie Eck and Elizabeth Eck, both of Fairview.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.²

OBITUARY

Susanna Eck, daughter of Henry and Katie Eck, was born near Fairview, Okla., June 19, 1907, and died March 31, 1948, at the age of 40 yrs., 9 mos. and 11 days.

In her youth she was up and around and physically quite normal, but mentally she was somewhat lacking, until the age of 14 years, when in the month of March, 1921, she took critically ill with scarlet fever and diphtheria. She recovered sufficiently to be up and around for several months, until August of the same year, she took to her bed and had to be taken care of, growing more helpless with the passing years. At first she was physically healthy, but as time went by she slowly declined.

About ten years ago she had a severe attack of the flu, which weakened her to the extent that she had to be fed like a little child. It was a very gradual declining.

She seemed as usual until Tuesday morning, March 30, when she suddenly took ill, and suffered severe pains. All that we could do for her brought no relief, until she quietly passed away the next day at 12:50 p.m.

We do not understand why her life should have been spent in helplessness, but we know that the Lord doeth all things well and commit her into His hands, believing that Jesus has died for her also and will take her to Himself.

She leaves her parents, two brothers, Willie of Fairview, Okla., and Walter of Isabella, Okla., two sisters, Marie and Elizabeth of the home, two sisters-in-law, and four nephews.

Funeral services were held April 4 in the Fairview Mennonite Church with Rev. Geo. M. Nichols in charge. Burial in Cedar cemetery.²

Service for Walter H. Eck Sr., 68, who died Friday, July 15, at the Fairview Hospital, were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite with the Rev. Milton Boehs officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home.

He was born Sept. 13, 1908, at Isabella on the family farm where he lived all his life. He married Susanna Eck on Nov. 25, 1931, at Enid. He was a farmer all of his life.

Survivors include his wife Susanna; four sons, Vernon R., Oklahoma City; Neal Allen, Las Vegas, Nev; Jerry Lee, Yukon, and Walter H. Jr., Woodward; one brother, Willie, Fairview; two sisters, Elizabeth Eck, and Marie Eck, both of Fairview; and four granddaughters.²

MARIE ECK

Graveside services for Marie Eck, 91, were Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Cedar Cemetery. The Rev. Myron Nightengale officiated. Arrangements were by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Marie Eck, was born June 20, 1911, to Henry A. and Katie (Wedel) Eck, at the family home in Major County, near Fairview and Isabella, Oklahoma and passed away April 22, 2003 at the Fairview Hospital in Fairview, Oklahoma.

Marie attended Progressive Elementary School and completed all eight grades. Her quest for more formal education was limited by several factors. She assisted with the care of her elder invalid sister and other household chores indigenous to life on the farm. She was a skilled practical nurse, a wonderful cook and took great pride in food preparation, sewing and household organization skills.

Her most rewarding employment was that of assisting friends and relatives following the birth of a newborn child. She had one personal rule while on duty. "First, complete the necessary work, and then complete one extra project each day."

Marie's cooking and domestic skills were in demand during the spring wheat harvests. Halrens Poultry Processing Plant provided her with a steady income for a period of time. Her hobbies included reading, quilting and making pillows. She sold some of her craft projects for additional income.

Marie is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Eck of Fairview; one sister-in-law, Susanna Eck of Isabella; four nephews, Vernon Eck and his wife Ruth of Oklahoma City, Neal Eck of Isabella, Jerry Eck and his wife Barbara of Yukon, and Walter Walt Eck and his wife Kay of Woodward.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry A. and Katie Eck; one sister, Susana "Susie" Eck; two brothers Walter H., and Willie H. and his wife Miranda.
