John C. Canaday, one of the substantial farmers of Carroll county, died at his home west of Bogard, early Saturday morning of heart disease, after an illness of several weeks. He was born in Henry county, Indiana, in 1839, coming to Missouri and settling in the northern part of this county in 1869, engaging in farming and the raising of fine hogs and poultry -- his herd of Chester White hogs being the finest in the county.

He married Miss Mary A. Shockley, to whom five children were born: C. N. Canaday, of this city, Mrs. W. D. Denison, Emma, Franklyn, of Washington, D. C., and Perry, of Bogard.

Mr. Canaday was a clever gentleman and an upright citizen. His death is regretted by all his neighbors and a host of friends and acquaintances in this county.

The funeral services were held at the Ebenezer church, four miles north of
Bogard, of which church Mr. Canaday was a member Dr. W. C. Baird and Rev. W. E. Tinney, of Bogard conducted the services. The interrment was made in the church cemetery.6
