Mamie E. Schuh

F, #1429, b. abt 1877, d. 25 May 1934

Parents

Family: Wilbert Edward Lock (b. 18 Dec 1878, d. 2 Nov 1934)

NameMamie E. Schuh was also known as Mae Schuh.1
NameShe was also known as Mae Lock.1
Note (fam)She and Wilbert Edward Lock. WARNING: the information about these two people seems to have some significant flaws and is under review. I started finding some inconsistencies in the data which I have not resolved. The primary problem lies in that there is a marriage of Wilbert Lock to Mamie Schuh in 1900. However I know that when he died his wife's name was Mayme Gasdorf. Based on the similarity of the first names it would appear that these two people are the same person. However in 1900 Mayme Gasdorf would have been too young to marry (about 12 years old). Also, in the 1930 census, it appears that Wilbert married Mayme Gasdorf about 1922. There is other evidence that these are not two separate families. My guess is that Wilbert was married twice (in 1900 and 1922) and the similarity of the first names of the wives is just a coincidence.

Augustin Steel

Family:

NoteAugustin Steel. ATTENTION ALL RESEARCHER OF AUGUSTIN STEEL(E) who died in Amherst County, VA in 1790. The vast majority of people have this person as the same person as Augustin Stahl who came to America from Germany in 1752 and married Anna Elizabeth Nufer. Those are two different people. Augustin Stahl moved to Dauphin County, PA and died there in 1815. I have been unable to prove where Augustin Steel came from, however, there were a lot of Steel's in the same region of VA as Augustin Steel. It appears that most were Scot-Irish which makes me suspect that Augustin Steel may also have been Scot-Irish. Y-DNA testing may help determine if this is true. If there are any male descendants of Augustin Steel that also have the Steel surname, I would urge they consider doing a Y-DNA test. Hopefully something will show up which will point toward the origins or our Steel family. Note, that this does have to be a Y-DNA test. An autosomal DNA test like Ancestry does will not help.

  1. [S2721] Augustin Steel is not Augustinus Stahl who came from Germany in 1752, According to most researchers. Augustine Steel is the same person who came to America in 1752 from Germany and married Ann Elizabeth Nufer. THIS IS NOT CORRECT. It is not clear where everyone got this information, but most likely it all originates from the book, AUGUSTINE STAHL (STEELE) GERMANY TO AMERICA AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS, by Willard Alfred Israel. The Augustine Stahl who came from Germany in 1752 did marry Ann Elizabeth Nufer. However, he settled in what eventually became Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and died there. A copy of his will can be found on FamilySearch.org in which he names Ann Elizabeth as his wife. A copy of his will is attached to this citation. The will was written 14 August 1806 and proved 20 June 1815.
