However, it appears that Martha is the Martha Ricket that appears in the household of Sherman and Fannie with the relationship specified as "relative". Martha Rickett later married Barney McCartney. No relationship to either Sherman or Fannie Hill has been found. It has not been investigated if Martha was related to either of Sherman's first two wives. | |
| Note | She. I think that Martha Hill that appears in the obituary of Mrs Francis Hill is neither the daughter of Francis Hill nor Sherman Hill. A more likely possibility is that she is Martha Ricket that appears in the 1930 US Census with Francis and Sherman where the Martha's relationship to Sherman is given as "relative". In the 1920 US Census is Samuel and Sarah Ricketts living between 5 and 15 miles from Francis and Sherman in rural Alfalfa County, OK (probably near Jet, OK). Samuel has a daughter, Martha Jane Ricketts. Samuel died 28 Oct 1926 and his wife, Sarah, died 30 May 1930. I think that Martha is the daughter of Samuel and Sarah and that Francis and Sherman took her in after the death of Martha's parents. Although Sherman had children from his previous marriages, he had none with Francis, so Martha became Francis and Sherman's adopted child. | |
