Mildred Josephine (Whalen) Kraft

ENID — There will be no funeral ceremony for Mildred Josephine (Whalen) Kraft, 97, of Enid. At her request he body was donated to science under the king guidance of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kraft was born on Sept. 25, 1913 in Buffalo, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Whalen and died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Golden Oaks Nursing Center.

She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1930. Mrs. Kraft earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma College for Women in 1934. She also attended Oklahoma University, Northwestern State College in Alva, Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. and Chicago School of Music and Dance.

In 1942 Mrs. Kraft married Fred Kraft while teaching at Burlington. They lived several years on the family farm before moving to Nash for several years, then to Duncan. Her last 27 years, she live in Enid. Mrs. Kraft’s teaching career included vocal and instrumental music in Nash, Buffalo, Bixby, Fletcher and Duncan. Her teaching included private lessons in piano and dancing. For many years while in Duncan, she was choir director and organist at West Side Christian Church. Her singing and directing in Duncan with the Melody Girls was extended when she moved to Enid where she was also in the Melody Girls and Farfield County Singers.

Mrs. Kraft was also a member of Garfield County Retired Teachers Associations and Willow Road Christian Church. Her love and commitment to music has been an inspiration to many of her students.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann and husband, Bill Davis of Bella Vista Ark; son-in-law, Bill Fersch of Snyder, New York and two grandsons, Michael Fersch and Frederick Fersch. Mrs. Kraft was preceded in death by her husband, Fred and their daughter, Barbara Sue Fersch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Kraft’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.
