Obituary* | Obituary for Edward Thomas Saveland Brown: Brown Feb. 16, 2003 Edward T.S. Brown of Plainfield died Feb. 16 at Westview Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 93. Born Oct. 4, 1909, in Bloomington, he was a son of the late Oliver W. Brown and Alice J. Saveland. He was the widower of Idrene (Pickett) Brown. Mr. Brown was a 1932 graduate of Indiana University with an A.B. in chemistry and minors in botony and geology. While a student, he was an outstanding member of the IU track team. He was a member of the mile relay team which held the university record and as a freshman placed second in the high jump in the Big Ten conference. He developed a purebred flock of Shropshire sheep and had shown sheep at the Indiana State Fair since 1924. He exhibited at numerous state fairs, the Chicago International Livestock Exposition and the North American International Livestock Exposition. He also raised Holstein dairy cattle, Duroc hogs and Polled Shorthorn cattle as well as Percheron Horses. In 1969, Mr. Brown started raising Montadale sheep and exhibited both a champion and a reserve champion ram at the Indiana State Fair and several champions at the Kentucky State Fair. His portrait was placed in the Indiana Livestock Breeders' Hall of Fame at Purdue University in 1984. He served as president of the Hendricks County Sheep Breeders Association, the Indiana Shropshire Breeders Association, the Indiana Sheep Breeders Association and the American Shropshire Registry Association. He was a member of the Plainfield Friends Meeting. Survivors include daughters Mildred Elizabeth Moore of Fargo, N.D., and Alice Rebecca Brown of Plainfield. Services are 1 p.m. today at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield with Mark Tope officiating. Interment will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Plainfield. Memorials may be made to the Plainfield Friends Meeting, 105 S. East St., Plainfield, IN 46168 or to Montadale Sheep Breeders Endowment Fund, c/o of Community Foundation for SW WA, 703 Broadway, Suite 610, Vancouver, WA 98660.3 |

Obituary* | Obituary for Ruth Eleanor Canaday: Canaday -- In Danville, Illinois, December 20, 1929, Ruth Eleanor Canaday, daughter and youngest child of Fred A. and Hattie M. Canaday, suddenly passed away, aged 25 years. She was a member of Vermilion Monthly Meeting at Vermilion Grove, Illinois, a graduate of Vermilion Academy and for the past five years stenographer for an electrical firm in Danville. Her sudden death at the beginning of the Christmas season cast a great sorrow over the entire community. Funeral services and burial were at Vermilion Grove. George H. Moore of Ridgefarm and W. Bruce Hadley, local pastor, were in charge of the services. Beside the parents, one brother and one sister survive.1,3 |
