There are many Horner and Hornor families which DNA testing and other evidence such as proximity, religion, etc. suggests are related but no relationship has been established. There are also many trees by different genealogists which are the same in recent generations but take different paths in earlier generations. I am now trying to tie together as many of these families as I can and find/correct as many errors as I can. I hope others are interested enough to help. Help can come in the form of classic paper trail research, DNA testing, sharing information about our families, proposing ideas about how some of the trees may be connected, and making suggestions for further research. I would like to see people use the Horner board on Ancestry for communicating so that we can get a more widespread visibility.
The genealogy data on this web site of course contains my own Horner data, but I have been adding data from many other Horner lines hoping to eventually start tying some of these families together. I am trying to include source information for all my data. Today, I only put in information from what I believe to be original source data. I no longer use data from people's trees because of the volume of errors that I am seeing. Also, many books contain significant errors. For instance, the book
THIS OLD MONMOUTH OF OURS has a Horner genealogy that many have used, but unfortunately it has some major errors as reported by a scholarly researcher. If you see something that you think is wrong in my data, please let me know. If you have something that you think I should add, I would love to do that if it has proper source information.
For Horners that are not currently connected to my family, including their interrelated families, I have not tried to locate all source information. I have only searched for records to piece the family together. When I do process a record, I do enter all the information from that record that I think is genealogically relevant and include the source information that I used along with images when available (excluding census records). I have extended information about some families beyond what some people have in their trees. You are free to use my data to help with your own genealogy. Warning: when using someone's genealogy that is not your own (including mine), you should verify the data because there are a huge number of genealogies that have major errors in them. A lot of people copy genealogies without verifying the data, so I see some major errors propogated many times. I have attempted to provide sources for my data to make this easier for people to verify. Any corrections or additions you have to my data is appreciated. I believe my data is accurate, but there can be conflicting data in the records and I do make typographical errors. Of course I am also a human and can make incorrect conclusions.
If you are (or know) a
male with the Horner or Hornor surname, I would encourage doing a Y-DNA test. Contact me if you need information about what a Y-DNA test is or if you are interested in working with me in using this to map our our Horner/Hornor ancestry.
Thanks,
Dick Horner
