Note* Jacob J Ratzlaff At age 25 emigrated from Holland to Poland, Russia; there he married Anna Foth. Both Jacob and Anna were baptized 6/10/1861 by Tobias Unruh. Lived in Poland Russia approximately 24 years after their marriage. Emigrated to America in 1893. While the family was still living in Russia, they lived near the forest and they could hear the wolves howling at night. In the winter while the snow was on the ground the wolves would be attracted by the light in the windows and they would come up and look in, for the wolves were hungry. The family made a living by weaving rugs, this included the children who were at home. A wealthy man named Bernard Jantz of Durham KS sent the money to pay for the Ratzlaff family to come to America.
